I got way ahead on content so the posts that went live in March were done probably in January. Based on the way Wednesdays fell this month 3 posts went live.
Users & Pageviews
I am excited to say the numbers are up this month! We were over 1000 pageviews which I would love to see continue. This number means a lot to me for whatever reason. I have been above 1000 before, but then my Pinterest account tanked and it fell. I would like to see pageviews stay above 1000 moving forward. I love seeing a higher number for pages/session. This means people are hooked by my content to view multiple pages. This means either they like me and my content or my titles are attention grabbing making readers check out another page.
I am curious as to why I had so many pageviews on March 27th. I would love to go back and take a look at that day to see what I posted where, but honestly with all my work on social media it will take too much time.
I find with blogging it is a balance between time spent looking back and time spent moving forward.
It can be extremely beneficial to look back and see what you are doing right and try to replicate it for more success. However this time spend looking back and analyzing isn’t actually getting any work done. Also sometimes you go back and have some stats but you aren’t able to do anything with the information you found. Then you feel like you just wasted your time. It is a tricky balance in my opinion and I have definitely struggled with trying to track everything I am doing.
It is interesting to see where my pageviews are coming from. I have a couple pins that are going strong for “what to get a new mom” and “18 month milestones” the “/” is my website homepage.
I don’t entirely know what this traffic means. I assume anyone who comes directly to my website is first going to my homepage obviously. However if a Pinterest reader comes from the “18 month milestones” are they going to explore my website next or are then jumping to an article I have linked. That would be what I am curious about.
I am most definitely not an expert on Google Search Console. However compared to last month my average CTR dropped a lot and my average position is much higher. I believe both of these are negatives. I am wondering if this has anything to do with my pages and indexing.
Pinterest Impressions
Pinterest impressions were up a decent bit from last month. February was about 26K and March was about 40K.
Pinterest is still my primary source of traffic. For March I published one new pin each day. Some new URLS and some old URLS. The pins are mostly pictures free from Unsplash, but I do have some I have taken myself mixed in.
I have also started using Chat GBT to help me make my pin descriptions. This is one task I have never enjoyed. I do not think Pinterest users read the descriptions for the most part. It is mostly for SEO and categorization purposes.
When it comes to Pinterst I do my best with SEO and keywords in the description and title and basically am at the mercy of Pinterest. I am trying to slow down and make my pins prettier rather than just cranking them out.
Email Subscribers
In March I gained 3 new email subscribers. I now have 10 total subscribers. All three come to my email list through my toddler weekly checklist freebie. I also would like to note I have NOT lost a subscriber yet.
I have an email scheduled to go out 4/3/23.
My emails right now are very short and sweet. I provide links to 3-4 articles they may find helpful. I definitely focused on articles related to toddlers.
Income
I made income! Yay! I am always excited to see some affiliate income from Amazon. I know it is tiny, but I means I have hope at making more income.
Expenses
No expenses for March.
Goals
My goal is to diversify my traffic and get more pageviews. I want to get more eyes on my content. I am doing this through social media channels. I am also trying to push myself to post links on Reddit and try to send a link to HARO in the next couple of weeks.
Strategy/Changes
I huge change I made is to really dive into social media. In March I tried to post about 4 times a week on both Instagram and Facebook. I believe I posted daily on Twitter and Pinterest. I started recording short form videos. These were used as Reels for Instagram and Facebook. They are also scheduled out for YouTube shorts in April.
Once I showed my face on one platform I decided I might as well go all in.
I have started a YouTube channel and the first short will go live April 1st.
I have a short scheduled every other day in April.
I am really going all in on social media. I don’t entirely know what I am doing on any particular platform. I know most people would say start with one and master it but I just don’t have the patience.
I need to figure out where and how to place links on the various forms of content. Some are much easier than others.
I created a 12 week plan that was all about blog promotion through social media primarily along with Reddit and HARO. My next 12 week plan is going to be focused on getting my monetization on track with ads and such. I also need to make sure I have accounts set up properly for payouts and tracking all that.
So right now I am focused on picking up my traffic and next it will be earning money from said traffic.
You can see below where my traffic is coming from. I hope to see those social networks pick up in April. March I was mostly testing social media. April I truly have it scheduled out for the entire month.
Feelings
I am feeling good and excited. I don’t love social media, but I do love feeling reinvigorated with my blog. I feel hope that I can finally kick this business off. I want to get my content to people. That is why I wrote it.
I am also feeling a bit overwhelmed. I am trying to balance a ton of social media for me. One important thing is to batch create and schedule content. For example by 3/30/23 I have completely scheduled out all of my social media content for April. Now during the month of April I need to create content for May. I am trying to get even future ahead though because in May I am going to run out on full articles for my blog. I will need to spend some time writing again to get ahead on posts.
Conclusion
I am working really hard on my blog. I am waking up every morning before my children to create and publish content. I am proud of myself for diving into social media. I am learning a lot along the way and honestly doing my best.
I saw a lot of good things in March.
