I had a huge peak at the end of July so that didn’t count towards August. So all month my “last 30 day” stats were inflated to more like 50 K. That peak dropped off and August ended up with 45.79 Ks.

August didn’t have a major peak like the three previous months have seen. Instead, it just saw steady growth. Steady growth is what you want long-term, but it is also very fun to see a pin go viral.

Pinterest Analytics

Google Analytics

Overall I was happy with my google analytics numbers. My users increased by 63 in a single month up to 413. This is my first time breaking 400 users in a month.

One number that I wish did better is my pages/session. This number went down. I want to see that users are viewing multiple pages. I have linked articles within each other and then also have articles linked at the bottom of my articles. These linked articles are typically related fairly well so, in theory, they should attract the reader to keep looking around at my blog posts.

I didn’t have a huge peak day so my highest number of users in a day was only 23 and my average users per day was 13 which is my highest so far.

Google Search Console

I still don’t know a lot about google search console. I know I want clicks and impressions. My impressions were quite low last month but bounced back a bit so that’s great.

Goals

I did not accomplish as much as I would have liked as always. I created more boards for my Pinterest account. I also started working on slightly changing the pictures in my pin images for the four boards I post them to. The idea is that they appear to be fresh pins. So far I am not seeing if this tactic is benefiting me.

Goals for September. Keep publishing on schedule for momwifeandeverydaylife.com. I already have blog posts scheduled to publish all the way to 9/25 so as always I will stay consistent on my publishing of content.

I need to continue writing though to stay ahead.  During September I would like to have all posts through October ready to go. I intend to start posting holiday season content this month.

I want to focus on quality over quantity. My descriptions need to be on point and I want to start creating pins with pictures I have taken rather than stock photography. I said I would start publishing pins September 1st with my own photos but I don’t have a supply of pins ready yet, so that will be a new goal for October 1st.

So during the month of September pin creation will be a priority.

Strategy/Changes

For Pinterest, I started slightly altering the image in the pin so I could post it to multiple boards. So I would create a single pin for an article. Then I went back and turned that single pin into 4 slightly different pins by making minor alterations mostly to the image. Then I would schedule it to go to four boards going out every other day.

I am considering backing off on Pinterest a bit. I currently publish 9 pins a day. These are basically fresh pins. Not entirely, like I said previously I slightly alter the pins and post it to four boards. I am considering a slow drop to 8 pins and day and working my way down.

Pinterest is eating up a lot of my time. It feels like a hamster wheel of constant work. I have to create the pins, the descriptions, and schedule the pins to publish. All of these processes are time-consuming. It is amazing how many hours blogging takes read about my experience here, How Much Time Commitment Do You Need to Launch a New Blog?

I need to spend more time looking for what keywords people are searching for. If I could get some traffic through organic search rather than Pinterest life would be great. Putting in the work upfront by trying to find what people are searching for would be easier than promoting with Pinterest.

A lot of my content so far has been what I feel like I need to say about motherhood. Now it is time to target what people are looking for and what they need help with.

One other thing I did this month was take my top preforming post and improved linking to other posts. This specific post is by far out performing anything else I have published. I linked a few new articles in the posts and few at the end of the post in the related articles section.

I took note of where those articles where performing before adding them to the well preforming article and will check back in after a month to see if the other articles are now ranking higher.

My strategy here is to try to take advantage of what is working well and piggyback off that success.

Feelings

I feel like I had another month of slow growth. Slow and steady can be ok if I make it eventually.

It is easy to get frustrated but look at the numbers that are growing to give you motivation.

One area I am struggling is with income. I made nothing this month. I have poured hours into this blog. I love writing it! I love sharing my learning experiences! I will continue to do so without making an income. What I don’t love doing is taking the time to create and publish pins and do the work that isn’t fun without getting something in return.

I would love to be making money with this blog to help support my family financially.

My site is now 8 months old with 60 articles on it. I feel like this is a good base. I am hoping in the next few months to see bigger jumps in traffic.

August was a busy month for me personally. I had more work than usual and my daughter was sick quite frequently. I have learned though that you can’t wait for the perfect week to get stuff done. You have to make and find time for it.

Conclusion

This was a month of slow and steady growth. no crazy viral pins or major accomplishments occurred. Not every month can be amazing and that’s ok.
