Would I Recommend Tailwind for New Bloggers?

I want to start off being completely transparent. I do not have Tailwind and have never used the platform. I am speaking from my general understanding of how Tailwind works and the popular features people talk about.

I have never paid for or used Tailwind and I don’t think you should be either.

Pinterest has gone through some major changes recently. A lot of content creators are struggling to maintain their levels of exposure on Pinterest. No one ever likes to see their numbers fall.

Let’s break down some Tailwind features and why they are no longer worth the price.

Fresh Pins

Pinterest is all about fresh pins lately. Gone are the days of repining to multiple boards and reusing your pin that went viral last month.

Pinterest wants you to constantly create new pins.

A popular feature on Tailwind was the ability to loop your pins. You could set old pins to be republished in a month, a year, or whatever interval you decided on.

I no longer see the loop feature as beneficial. It sounds like a great feature though. I wish I could use it! It was probably so helpful back in the day!

Once you use a pin you should retire it, based on the current Pinterest algorithm.

Re-pins

Re-pins are not necessary as they were before. You can take them or leave them.

You do not need to pay for Tailwind for the purpose of repining others’ content. You can just casually do it when you log in or when you are trying to prep a board for launch.

Repinning used to be a huge part of content creators’ Pinterest strategy. It would be broken down into percentages such as 80% -20% or 50%-50%.

Gone are those times.

Tailwind Communities are all about repining others’ content. The groups even have rules about the ratio of repining you need to be doing.

I am not going to pay for Tailwind to be a part of the Tailwind Communities that may or may not be helping me at all.

I just don’t think it is worth it.

Scheduling Pins

The huge advantage to Tailwind is the ability to schedule your pins into the future. My question is how far out in the future can you schedule? I can’t find this answer anywhere!

You don’t need Tailwind to schedule your pins. You can do it manually in batches through the Pinterest platform.

When I first launched my blog I was learning how to create pins for the first time. I had no idea how to do so. All these bloggers were promoting Tailwind and saying they couldn’t live without it. They also always left their link. Convenient right?

Well, my cheap self figured, I could manage without Tailwind for a little while. I didn’t want to put more money into my blog. So I learned how to create pins on Pinterest. But here was the thing, at first I thought you had to get on daily. That’s why everyone was using Tailwind. Nobody has time to get on to Pinterest every day to schedule pins!

But then I found a quick video showing you how to schedule pins up to 14 days out on Pinterest.

I figured this would work for me! It is free to use!

Tailwind users like to say that they take one hour a month to schedule out all of their pins and it is so amazing. Ok well, let’s get on and schedule pins 2/3 times a month and do so for free.

Not Worth the Money

You pay for Tailwind. Pinterest though is constantly changing. Pinterest is no longer encouraging you to use all of the features on Tailwind.

If I can’t make the most out of a product I don’t intend to buy it.

I don’t see why I would pay for Tailwind when Pinterest is constantly changing and I can schedule my pins for free elsewhere.

Conclusion

Maybe in the future, I will find a reason to get on Tailwind but now is not the time. I am curious about your thoughts on Tailwind and if it is still worth the monthly expense with how Pinterest is changing.

Do you credit Pinterest with growth on your account?

For now I am holding off on this purchase, but at time I am curious if it would be beneficial to my business.

Do I Recommend Tailwind for New Bloggers

Update

Recently I came across an article discussing Tailwind’s free plan! This is new to my knowledge.

You can find that article here.

It looks like you can publish 20 posts per month, use Tailwind Create to design 20 posts per month, and join 5 Tailwind Communities with 30 submissions per month.

I realize this is the suck-you-in-plan. But I am thinking about giving it a try for my newest blog. This blog doesn’t have a Pinterest account yet so I would be starting fresh.

I’ll give an update on how this free version works and if I would, in fact, start recommending Tailwind for content creators. Stay tuned for that!
