Published Posts

I published the 4 necessary posts this month. April only had 4 Wednesdays. Three of my posts were a bit seasonal, which is fun. I was a little late in getting them out in time for spring, summer, and Father’s Day. I need to do better at looking ahead for seasonal content publishing. I was just feeling these topics and went for it. I tried to quickly promote them on Pinterest once they were live.

Users & Pageviews

April was not a great month for users and pageviews. I had a pretty significant drop from March’s numbers. I was glad though that April’s pageviews did stay above 1000 for the month. I would like to maintain that for now.

I am not sure exactly what happened with my traffic. My Pinterest impressions were down for the month. I also think some of my previously strong pins started to fade out this month.

I hope to see these numbers bounce back next month. I was previously seeing low to high 30s for daily users. This month my average daily users were the lowest they have been all year. Again let’s hope to see improvement!

Pinterest Impressions

All of my Pinterest numbers were down from March. I think pins that were previously performing well dropped in the rankings a bit.

I was a bit let down though because in March and April I started publishing single pin images to a single board then retiring them. I am trying to be better about providing fresh pins to make Pinterest happy.

I also posted a few different articles and therefore new URLs this month. This should happen every month, but sometimes when I post new articles it takes me a while to create correlating pins.

I just really don’t know what to do to see real progress with my Pinterest account.

January and March have been around 60 K impressions whereas February and April have been around 48K impressions. I am yo-yo-ing.

Email Subscribers

This month I got 2 more email subscribers. This puts my total at 3 subscribers. I was honestly pretty happy with gaining 2 subscribers. Again I am hoping this means I am moving in the right direction and will see progress. I emailed both new subscribers a welcome email that gave them 3 different articles to check out related to the opt-in they signed up through. As of right now, one person opened the email and the other did not. A 50% open rate isn’t too bad I guess.

Income

I am bummed to say I did not make any income this month.

With Amazon affiliates, I got 25 clicks, but no purchases and therefore no commissions.

It is interesting to see that I yo-yo-ed here as well. The number of clicks for January and March was both 36. February was 24 and April was 25.

This shows you that Pinterest Impressions = Pageviews = Affiliate Clicks = Income Potential.

Amazon
Ezoic

As far as Ezoic I have no idea what happened. Apparently, something shut down my earning potential. I still have ads on my site though, which is annoying. If ads are going to be cumbersome on my site, they had better be earning me income!

April wraps up income with a big fat $0.

Expenses

I did not have any expenses this month which is great of course.

Goals

April Goals:

Get ahead on content

Send Product to a Friend for Feedback

Work on subscribe forms to better entice subscribers

Work on better optimizing old posts with SEO efforts

By the end of April, I had content published through all of May.

I did, in fact, get my first digital product far enough along to send it to a trusted friend for feedback. Since then I have continued to take her feedback and make tweaks and edits.

During Q1 I worked on placing numerous email opt-in freebies to gain subscribers. People were not subscribing though. I quickly realized that people aren’t even getting far enough to see the PDF and judge it. They are stopping at the subscribe form. So this means the form is either advertising something they are not interested in or needs to be better presented to get people to click.

I worked on adding the phrase FREE to all forms and did have a few subscribers in April. I am hoping this was due to my efforts!

My final goal was to work on the SEO of old posts. I did not get to this goal. It was my last priority and somewhat vague. I need to map out a specific time to address this.  I realize it is important, but could take quite a bit of time. The hope is that it is worth the time. Something I feel I need to focus on more and more moving forward is ROI. I want to spend time on tasks that are moving my blog forward as a business.

May Goals:

Publish June Content

Publish July Content

Publish August Content

Product Launch

I’ve got a baby coming in June and want to pump out as much content as possible. While at home with my baby I will be recovering, adjusting to life, and trying to keep up on other blogging tasks. Getting content scheduled out in advance will be a huge help.

I spent quite a bit of time working on my product development. I believe my original launch date was going to be June or July. I am however going to try to push myself to launch it in May before I have my baby. I hope I can get all the necessary ducks in a row in time to launch it. I need to create a sales or landing page, emails, promotional pins, and so much more that I probably don’t even realize.

Strategy/Changes

I have been adjusting my Pinterest strategy to use a single pin image only one time and publish it to only one board. Then it is retired.

I am constantly creating fresh pins. It is so much work but overall will hopefully improve my account. I saw success in March, but April wasn’t all that great. So I guess to be determined.

With Pinterest, there are always so many variables at play. It is hard to know what is and isn’t working.

I don’t really plan to make many changes. I just want to prepare for the upcoming arrival of my baby so that I won’t fall off the blogging wagon.

Feelings

April was a bit of a weak month as far as the numbers. I am bummed I made $0 in income, particularly with ads.

I am excited about the potential earnings with launching my first digital product. I realize my first one may not be a success; however, I am hopeful it will be. If anything I hope it will be another building block to learning how to be a successful blogger. It could lead to success with my 2nd or even 5th product.

Digital products have so much more earning potential than ads and affiliates for right now with my traffic.

When it comes to my blog it isn’t that I am money hungry necessarily, but it would be nice to reap some rewards for the amount of work I am putting into it.

Conclusion

April really wasn’t a great month overall. Not great or exciting anything. Sorry, but just going to keep it real.
